The use of computers was once the privilege of the few but the decreasing cost has made them available to all. The growth of the โ€˜personalโ€™ computer market has led to a new generation of computer users to whom their 8-bit microprocessor-based machine is more important and useful than any large, time-sharing, multi-access facility because the personal computer is approachable, its use readily understood and its programming (usually in BASIC) fairly straightforward.
