The use of computers was once the privilege of the few but the decreasing cost has made them available to all. The growth of the โpersonalโ computer market has led to a new generation of computer users to whom their 8-bit microprocessor-based machine is more important and useful than any large, time-sharing, multi-access facility because the personal computer is approachable, its use readily understood and its programming (usually in BASIC) fairly straightforward.
