# Silicon Mountain Computers

Silicon Mountain Computers was owner[Fred Nachbaur’s](http://localhost/indiv/fred-nachbaur/) second Sinclair-focused company. This company specialized in “never-before-seen” hardware and software for the Sinclair ZX81 family, including the Timex 1000, 1500 and the [PC8300 clone](http://localhost/computers/lambda-8300/).

Fred’s goal was to “provide the best hardware and software ever created for these machines.”

Unlike [SyncWare](http://localhost/company/syncware-co/), Silicon Mountain products pushed the Sinclair ZX81 to its limits with a bare minimum of additional hardware. Many of the programs only required [an 8K static memory board](http://localhost/product/scram-bare-card/) and [Wilf Rigter’s](http://localhost/tag/wilf-rigter/) WRX 16 hi-res software.

Fred passed along all the software to [Jim Horne](http://localhost/indiv/jim-horne/), who sold it under [Insomniac Electronics](http://localhost/company/insomniac-electronics/), in 1988.
