Thornburg worked at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center as a research scientist, on a variety of projects, including the development of user interface devices for the Xerox Alto. His inventions included touch screen technology used in early PDAs and whiteboards.
He co-founded Koala Technologies, which marketed one of his inventions, the KoalaPad graphics tablet.
