Timex/Sinclair Online User Group meeting April 4, 2022

Date: April 4, 2022

This meeting features Tim Swenson, a long-time Sinclair user. Tim started out with a Sinclair ZX-81, briefly transitioned to the Timex/Sinclair 2068 and used the Sinclair QL for many years. He’s published physical and electronic zines about the Sinclair and Timex 8 bit computers and about the Sinclair QL. You can find his newsletters and other resources on his website, http://swensont.epizy.com/

Dave Spinnett talks a little bit about the Sinclair QL and his own personal history, including publishing Zonkey Kong with his friend Don Campbell. You can find their game here: https://worldofspectrum.net/publisher/20039/

Ingo Schmied shows us his own custom TS 1000 keyboard. His website, https://blog.codesurfer.dev/, features several blog posts about the Sinclair computers.

Willie Jones was active in his local user group, ISTUG, and wrote a bulletin board system for the TS 2068 back in the 1980s. We talked briefly about a customized version of Pro/File 2068 he made, which Neil Cohen has rediscovered.

Jay Siegel shares details with us about some of his extensive Sinclair and Timex collection.

And we chat with Carl Miles the potential for adapting an IBM style keyboard to the ZX81/TS1000 and TS2068. Jack Dohany worked on a project to do that, published in Update Magazine. The article is available here: https://www.timexsinclair.com/article/announcing-the-iki-an-ibm-keyboard-interface-for-1000-2068/

The full run of Update is available on archive.org and indexed on TimexSinclair.com, here: https://www.timexsinclair.com/periodical/update-magazine/
