Here is a letter from a reader of Fort Myers, Florida:
Dear Editors,
In reply to your questionnaire, regarding the format desired by readers of your magazine, I believe that the 1st option (return to old format, add 32 col. mode and full size printer option) makes the most sense. It would best serve to keep down postage costs for you and at the same time provide a printout to those who desire one.
In other matters, I was distressed to learn that Zebra Systems is no longer carrying the Portuguese made Timex Disk Drive System. This is a system which so greatly enhances the power of the TS2068, that it boggles the mind. Never mind that the full utilisation of the many facets of its operating system have not been even thought of. Just recently I have written a disk based database that expands the average “Phone Book” to include not only a few hundred names, addresses and phone numbers, but THOUSANDS per disk side.
By being able to shunt unneeded data onto disk and not having to use valuable memory space for dimensioned storage, this system offers you the ability to create incredibly complex powerful programs. I’m talking about adding spelling checkers to word-processors, talking programs and really integrated software for the TS2068. I am sure that in Europe this is being done.
In any case, I would be willing to help anyone interested in forming a group to import these drives from Portugal or getting a license to make them here in the States. With the dual 3″ drives including fan and power supply being sold by Peripherals Direct for $75, all that is really needed is for someone to build the interface/controllers and we could have a complete system for well under $200 (US).
If you get a chance you might mention that I have written this database called SYNCBASE that I intend to sell for $10 (US) to whomever sends me a blank 3″ disk. The program is written in BASIC and can be easily modified for specialised purposes such as a message base for a bulletin board.Well I have a lot to do so let me close with a “KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!”, your magazine is excellent.
Sincerely,
William L. Brancati
