Downloadable Software for the Timex/Sinclair 2068

Timex/Sinclair 2068 users did not have the huge library of software for the ZX Spectrum directly available to them, due to changes Timex made in bringing the 2068 market. While this may have been a contributing factor to the lack of commercial success for the computer, it did not stop its users from developing their own software.

The TS-2068 has several unique advantages over the ZX Spectrum: it had higher resolution graphics modes, the ability to run software (machine language and BASIC programs) from a cartridge, freeing almost all of the RAM for data use. A number of programs, including OS-64, MScript, and Pro/File 2068, took advantage of these features.

Almost all of the files available here are in TAP format, for easy use with emulators and devices like the TS-Pico. Some of the archived software also includes a WAV file, which can be used with a phone or other digital audio player (such as Audacity on your PC) connected to the EAR input of your computer to load software the old fashioned way.

You can access the entire library of archived software for both the 1000/1500 and 2068 on archive.org.

Running Spectrum Software

You can run ZX Spectrum software on your Timex/Sinclair 2068 in a variety of ways:

  • with a Spectrum ROM cartridge
  • with an internal switchable Spectrum ROM, like the ROMSwitch
  • with a twister board (either with or without Spectrum ROM) and a DIV MMC
  • with the TS-Pico

ZX Spectrum software is available at Spectrum Computing.
