As an Industrial Designer, I am often required to specify the minimum practical amounts of material and the most effective configurations that will safely support a given load before spending thousands of dollars in tooling to produce parts for testing. The program I developed for this task has proved extremely rewarding. Now I can try out literally hundreds of possibilities in a matter of minutes, and I have found the results to be surprisingly reliable and predictive of actual performance.
