Native Timex Sinclair 2068 word processor with proportional fonts, ECM color, pictures and RTF interchange
TSWriter runs from a cartridge (writer.dck) and starts with an empty document. You can mix 16 font choices with bold, italic, underline and text colours, and align paragraphs left, centre, right or justified. It works in two display modes, 512×192 high resolution and 256×192 extended colour (ECM), with wide or narrow pages, and offers word wrap, selection with cut, copy and paste, Find, page movement and up to five levels of undo when memory allows. Text, formatting, pictures and undo share a 30 KB pool.
Pictures can be imported from standard SCR or ECM screen files on tape, cropped in 8-pixel steps and placed with text flowing beside them. Documents are saved and loaded on cassette in TSWriter’s own format, and can be exported as editable RTF with the pictures embedded; a subset of RTF can be imported. A separate font package provides outline versions of the fonts for LibreOffice on Windows, macOS and Linux, so exported documents look the same on a modern computer. Printer output is not implemented.
By Jon Becker, with Codex, 2026; the fonts include GEOS fonts. The author describes it as a development release. It needs a TS2068-capable emulator such as Fuse with your own system ROMs, or the real machine with a cartridge. The project site has a browser version running on TSRun, which handles typing and menus but not document loading or tape saving.
