Xadom is a fixed-screen action game viewed from a bird’s-eye perspective, in which the player navigates a series of single-room maze levels and exits each one through a portal at the top of the screen. Rooms vary in content — some are nearly empty, others contain traps, aliens, or a collectible weapon — but all pass quickly, as the goal is simply to reach the portal and advance. Weapons, when found, can be used to strike in four directions. The game opens with an elaborate story introduction involving a character transported to a satellite five kilometres above Earth to stand before a Local Grand Council.
