The Winchester technology used in the Miracle Systems Hard Disk for the QL is considerably more reliable than floppy disk technology. Nevertheless the Winchester stores a considerable amount of data and even the most reliable systems can fail. It is ESSENTIAL to keep backup copies of all of your working files. You have been warned!
To reduce the possibility of mechanical damage to your Winchester Disk, the read/write heads are parked automatically when the disk is idle. This is normally done 5 seconds after the last access to the Winchester Disk. It is important to wait 5 seconds after you have finished using the disk before you turn the power off. If you suffer from a power cut or other unscheduled interruption to the operation of your QL, you should re-BOOT and wait for the disk to auto park.
