Smart II available now from various vendors- Dave Schoenwetter reviewed already! Using his 2068 talking to his IBM PC, he was able to see it work and UNDERSTAND the documentation. It works- but remember it works at 300 baud. Same as the 1000 loaded off the tape recorder. 27K would load in some 14 minutes. Not bad if local calls involved, Long Distance rates will eat a hole in your budget if you plan a lot of uploading across country. There are some bugs, and it takes some getting used to,with Dave’s mini-phone system, it is cheaper than learning the LD way. Magazine-“Sinclair/Timex Users Magazine”gives a few tips from the TSUG of Cincinnati re: the 2050 type modem with the Aerco IF (its at the meetings on the bulletin board.)The editor of SUM says…”When call waiting beeps on your line while using the modem, you can usually have spurious characters or a crash. If you get locked up and have to turn off the computer to restart. Many times, depending on who you are talking to, the host computer will not realize you have left and go on waiting for you to send something. I have actually been cut off and dialed the mainframe back up and still be on line and in my account! I would hate to think what would have happened if someone else had dialed up in that time I was off line”.

For the 81/1000 users the SUM mag is continuing to run a how to repair a 81/1000, article.
