RMG Update News for December 1989

Author(s): Rod Gowen

The December 1989 issue (Volume 1, Number 4) of RMG Catalog Updates, the monthly newsletter that RMG Enterprises mailed to its customers on a Larken disk, edited by Rod Gowen. Each issue was a set of Tasword pages to load and read or print. The text below is transcribed from the issue’s disk: Rod Gowen’s welcome page and the news page. Phone numbers have been left out.

The welcome page calls this the “November disk issue”; the news page is headed December ’89, Volume 1, Number 4.

Welcome

How did you like the last issue? We have heard nothing, so we will have to assume that you did. I’m surely not going to assume that you did not! We at RMG hope that you are doing what you can to support both RMG and any other dealer that you can. Let’s keep as many around as we can! That goes for magazines and user groups as well! SUPPORT! THAT’S WHAT IT TAKES!

TO RECAP: To use this and future issues of RMG CATALOG UPDATES, just do as you did with our disk catalog, LOAD Tasword, and catalog the disk. Then it is a simple matter to LOAD and read/print each page by using the filenames as listed. Of course, we use the default extension of “.CT” for all of our Tasword files and if you do not wish to use our version of Tasword, you are free to use a utility like DISK MANAGER to RENAME the files with your extension. Feel free to do so.

This month I am going to include a great little program from Richard Hurd. He has written some real nice Larken utilities for us and put them in the public domain. This one is called ONEDR, which is just what it says: ONE DRIVE. It is pronounced: WONDER! (ONEDR).

It means One Drive Copy and is a utility to allow users of the Larken system with only one drive make disk copies. (You cannot do it with the Larken disk copy routine.) The program is very self explainatory and therefore there is no written documentation for it. The program is in 2 files: ONEDR.B1 and “backup.C1” LOAD it in, give it a try. Let us hear about it!

Also, if any of you have any short programs, of any type, that you would like to put into the public domain, we would be glad to include them in this publication. Why not share your favorite little routine with other Larken users? Who knows where it may lead?

One last note: If you are having ANY difficulties with this publication, either in getting the disk to load properly or with the format of the pages or even in getting them to print out, we want to know so that we can correct or help with any problems. We want this to be an enjoyable means of getting your news and information, not one that you have to work at.

Thanks again and we will be back with you next month,

Rod Gowen, Editor: RMG UPDATES

Time Designs Magazine

IS ALIVE AND WELL(?)! At least we think so! We received Vol. 5, No. 2 just a day or two ago. WHAT A SUPRISE! We had about given up on it! It has 40 pages, including covers, and has been “shrunk” to 7″x8.5″ from the old 8.5″x11″ size. Type size is the same, but ads are smaller. We hope all of you who subscribe get your copy soon. If you do not, we suggest that you give the TDM BBS a call at: [phone number omitted] 8/1/N 300 Baud. Leave a message, it may help!

Larken Electronics

Larry Kenny tells us that he is nearing completion on his desk top publishing package. I can only hope that it is as good as I think it is. He has been working on a flatbed plotter type drilling machine for detailed work. He can now drill his own printed circuit boards. The machine uses standard HP printer/plotter commands. It is running on a PC clone. It simply means that he will have to spend less on circuit boards. We hope it helps! Now, if we can only get him to finish the spellchecker

The Bull Pen BBS/Sinclair Users Unite

It seems that there has been a lot of folks out there who run a BBS and could not find our Echo. We do not know why this is, but we are guessing that, after the Echo mail leaves the Portland area and arrives in Texas for distribution, someone is deleting it. To possibly get around this problem and to expand our coverage of the Sinclair world, we have joined 3 other Nets: EGGNET, RBBSNET and SIGNET. We (The Bull Pen BBS) are the HOST and area coordinator for the SIGNET. If we can get things going on it, we may be sending mail to Europe and Australia before we know it! Won’t that be great! We will keep you posted. In the meantime, get those modems out and working! Get a local Sysop to carry the Sinclair Echo. Find a BBS that is on one of the above named Nets. Let’t TALK!

Novelsoft S/W

The four Novelsoft programs that we told you about last month to soon be available on Larken disk from RMG are still not in stock. We still expect to have them, but do not know exactly when. We will, as usual, keep you posted here.

PICS-FX

A program written by Michael Di Rienzo of Seattle, WA, will soon be available from RMG. Michael called us last week and we worked out a deal to sell the product. If you have read the reviews, it sounds like a nice graphics package for the 2068. It will be selling for $19.95 plus shipping and we will let you know as soon as we have it in stock.

KEEP WATCHIN’ FOR MORE NEWS! Rod Gowen, Owner: RMG Enterprises
