Amateur radio

Ham radio enthusiasts were among the earliest home computer users. Computers were useful in making the complex calculations common needed for amateur radio projects and they could be used for “ham shack” activities like tracking contacts.

There were at least two active ham radio “networks” active in the 1980s:

  • QZX Net, on Wednesdays at 9pm local time on 14.345 mhz
  • Eastern Regional Sinclair Net, on Sundays at 4pm GMT on 7.245 mhz
